NBA player stuck with $25K monthly payment in Lorain County child support case

  • November 28, 2025

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WOIO) – The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled against NBA player Christian Wood in a child support case stemming from Lorain County.

In a unanimous decision announced Wednesday, the state’s top court found Wood must pay $25,000 a month in child support after missing an objection deadline.

According to court records, Wood had a child in January 2021 with an Elyria woman he met on social media.

He was playing for the Dallas Mavericks at that time and most recently the Los Angeles Lakers.

In July 2021, records state Wood and the woman went to Lorain County court over child support and visitation, resulting in an interim child support order for $5,000.

The parents went to trial in 2023, and Wood was issued a $25,000 monthly child support payment, backdated to January 2021, according to the records.

He filed an objection 15 days after receiving the order, and it was the date of that filing which landed the case in Ohio Supreme Court.

The justices on Wednesday found Wood missed the deadline by one day to object.
