The Minnesota Timberwolves are continuing their push to solidify the backcourt alongside franchise superstar Anthony Edwards.

The Wolves, according to the latest reports, are exploring high-profile guard options to solidify the position long-term as current starter Mike Conley approaches retirement.

On Friday, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel shared a new report with the latest information about the Timberwolves’ plans to add talent through the trade market.

According to Siegel, Minnesota is among the teams monitoring the situation surrounding Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball.

“Both the Kings and Timberwolves have been mentioned as possible landing spots from league personnel, and another destination floated around has been the New Orleans Pelicans,” Siegel wrote, citing league sources.

Siegel noted that Ball’s long-term role with the Hornets remains uncertain, making that the main reason for a potential in-season trade. That said, Siegel added the Hornets “have not shown a willingness to discuss Ball with teams inquiring about his availability this season.”

Charlotte seems to be focused on developing fellow youngsters Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel, potentially shifting Ball out of the primary spotlight.

Though Ball has denied any dissatisfaction with the franchise after the latest rumors saying he’d be happy with a trade out of Charlotte, constant injury issues and a dubious fit remain concerns for the Hornets and his potential suitors.

The Wolves have also been linked to Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant. HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported on Wednesday that Minnesota has already inquired about Morant, though Memphis has rejected all trade overtures.

Scotto emphasized that Timberwolves president Tim Connelly remains focused on adding a long-term lead guard and has explored multiple options over the past year.

Ultimately, Siegel noted that unless Morant demands a trade or someone comes up with an appealing package, Memphis is expected to hold him through the season.

“Unless a team offers a massive haul of draft picks and high-level, young talents, which has not happened to this point, then it seems like the Grizzlies are preparing to hold onto Morant through the end of the 2025-26 season,” Siegel wrote.

The Wolves arrived at Thanksgiving with a 10-8 record and will face the Boston Celtics at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday on NBA TV.
