LOS ANGELES LAKERS bosses were forced to ditch their special NBA Cup court for Friday’s win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Luka Doncic and other Lakers stars had complained about the slippery surface they beat the LA Clippers on at the Crypto.com Arena earlier this week.

A special, bright yellow NBA Cup court had been rolled out but league technicians deemed it unplayable ahead of the Mavs game.

The Lakers therefore reverted to their traditional court as they ran out 129-119 winners, improving their record to 14-4.

An NBA spokesperson told ESPN: “Player safety is our top priority.

“In consultation with the Lakers, we identified areas of their NBA Cup court that required additional refinishing, so the team will use its standard home court [for the Mavs game].

“The NBA Cup court is being reconditioned and will be ready for use in the quarterfinals should they host.”

Doncic called for changes after slipping and sliding his way through the Clippers game.

There was condensation all over the court just a day after it was converted from the ice rink that hosted the Los Angeles Kings’ win over the Ottawa Senators in the NHL.

Doncic said: “It’s just slippery. It’s dangerous. I slipped. I slipped a lot of times, and you could see a lot of players slipped. And that’s dangerous, man.”

His team-mate, Rui Hachimura, added on Friday: “That was bad. I felt it right away when I was warming up.

“It just felt weird. Just like oily, slippery. Everybody was on the floor, literally.”

Doncic put up 43 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds even on the court he called “dangerous”.

And he was again imperious against the Mavericks – his former team – on Friday as he posted 35 points, 11 assists and five rebounds.
