The San Antonio Spurs have their fair share of draft picks and a decent amount of financial flexibility moving forward, but it’s very likely that they hold pat and don’t make a splashy offseason move.
Between Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Julian Champagnie, and Jeremy Sochan, the Spurs have a solid cast of players to build around and with, although Wembanyama, Sochan, Castle, and Fox are all due for massive extensions sooner rather than later.

Heading into the season, the Spurs were expected to make both Barnes and Johnson available in trade talks, but both have played their way into rotational pieces, and Barnes is actually having a career year.
That doesn’t mean that everyone is safe, as the Spurs are expected to make some moves this summer.

The Spurs are in dire need of a backup center. They could draft one, trade for one, or sign a free agent like Brook Lopez, Clint Capela, or even Bismack Biyombo. However, either way, they will need roster spots open to make that happen.
Blake Wesley has been excellent in recent games, but once Fox is back and healthy, it’s hard to imagine that he will remain a fixture in the rotation. His draft classmate Malaki Branham has fallen out of the rotation under acting head coach Mitch Johnson, and with only one year left on their rookie contracts, both guards could be on the move.

“Fresh off the acquisition of De’Aaron Fox, with two potential lottery picks inbound, less seismic moves are more likely,” wrote Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale. “Branham and Wesley are both candidates for some routine bookkeeping. The Spurs are not hard-up for roster spots and don’t need tax space, but neither factors into their present or future, and both are entering the final year of their contracts.”
Moving for an A-list superstar sounds appealing, but would Kevin Durant really fit in with what the Spurs are building? Would it be worth parting with Castle to add a player of Durant’s ilk into the fold? Most fans would say no.

The Spurs already have their superstar in Wembanyama and an elite second option in Fox, all they have to do is improve around the margins, and in very Spurs fashion, they are expected to do that internally.
