After the Magic return from Detroit following Friday’s critical NBA Cup contest, a challenging three-game homestand awaits Orlando.
Jamahl Mosley‘s squad will have two days off in the ramp-up to Monday’s matchup against the Bulls, a game that’ll be available nationally on NBC’s streaming service Peacock.
Next, the Spurs make their lone trip to Kia Center for a midweek meeting with the Magic.
Lastly, Orlando hosts Miami for the second time this season and first since Opening Night next Friday.
Although the Bulls have fallen back to reality following a 6-1 start to the season (Chicago was 3-7 in its last 10 games entering Friday’s game at Charlotte), they last left Orlando with a 12-point win on Oct. 25.
And even if it’s determined that All-Defensive center Victor Wembanyama (left calf strain) is unable to play for San Antonio, the Western Conference foe had gone 7-3 in its last 10 with just 5 losses on the year heading into Friday’s contest at Denver.
As for the Heat, Orlando’s in-state rival just got All-Star Tyler Herro back after he missed the first 17 games of the season due to a left ankle injury that required surgery in September. Although the Magic beat the Heat to start the season, Miami entered Friday third in the East’s standings.
But the Magic believe they’re on the right track after winning 10 of their last 14 games before facing the Pistons. They also hope to get All-Star forward Paolo Banchero back soon after he was ruled out of his eighth game in a row at Detroit due to a left groin strain.
Orlando said from the jump that its 1-4 start was just that — a slow start to a season. The group also knows it can’t get too high despite its recent success, the same way it wasn’t able to get too low after a poor opening to a highly anticipated season.
Heading back to Central Florida after a three-game trip that included two Cup games, Orlando is 7-3 at Kia Center this season and has won its last five at home.
“You want to keep that confidence and use that momentum to your advantage but at the same time you don’t want to let it let your guard down or make you feel too comfortable,” Magic point guard Tyus Jones said Friday. “You want to walk that fine line of knowing you can do it, using it as confidence and just keep it going.”
Added Magic forward Franz Wagner: “We’ve been playing better but definitely not perfect. It’s still early in the season, so just understanding that.”
