As the Boston Celtics move through the season, the absence of star forward Jayson Tatum looms large. Tatum is expected to be out for the entire season after suffering an injury in the playoffs last season.
Boston has taken a step back in the Eastern Conference, even with star Jaylen Brown now leading the show. Brown can’t do it alone, and the rest of the roster isn’t up to championship requirements.
Due to the injury to Tatum, it has opened the door for the Celtics to take a step back in terms of contention. The front office has also put some of its main players in trade talks, including Brown.
It was reported over the summer that Boston set an extremely high asking price to move Brown, and that it would likely take a godfather offer to part with him. But what if a trade did decide to make the Celtics this type of offer?Â
Boston would then surely have to at least consider doing it, even if just to get off the large contract of Brown. Brown has also dealt with some injuries in recent years, and the Celtics can’t afford to have this contract backfire on them.
It remains to be seen what will happen, but the mere fact that Brown was dangled in trade talks shows that the Celtics aren’t fully committed to him long-term. This could see him possibly be moved if the team were to get a deal that they would be dumb to refuse.

Washington Wizards Trade For Jaylen Brown
One team that could look to make this type of offer to the Celtics for Brown could be the Washington Wizards. Washington is off to another very slow start to the season, and things aren’t looking great for them, even with the plethora of young prospects on the team.
Washington has stockpiled prospects and draft picks to go after a star down the line, and Brown could potentially be the guy for them. This team has enough that it could send the Celtics multiple picks and players, while also still having some ammo to use on another player.
Brown would get a chance to be the face of his own team, which may interest him, and he could be the savior of basketball in Washington, potentially. Washington would start to build toward the future, while the Celtics could completely retool around Tatum and a warchest of assets.
Last season with the Celtics, Brown put up 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. Brown is exactly the type of player that could help turn the Wizards around, and he is also only 29 years old, giving him time to stay in his prime.
The Celtics could look to bring in another star to pair with Tatum, and this could give them some financial flexibility to be off the contract of Brown. Overall, this could be a real win-win for each side if Brown were to be actually shopped on the trade front.
This could be the start of a new era of basketball for the Wizards, and the front office could then go search for a co-star to pair with Brown. Washington could get itself right into the title conversation with one move, making this a possible, intriguing situation.
