Tyrese Maxey continues to grow in a franchise icon role with the Philadelphia 76ers. With Joel Embiid and Paul George both on the decline, he’s set to take over the team soon. But before that, Maxey tried taking over at the National Dog Show first.
Maxey chose to attend the 2025 National Dog Show on Thanksgiving. What’s more, the NBA star was a guest handler for a special agility segment that aired on NBC. His adorable teammates on the day were Howie and Spike, two trained pups he had to guide through the course.

Maxey struggled with his task a little. Howie was more interested in the weave poles and ended up in a chaotic tug of war with the star guard. They took 41 seconds to complete the course. His second run with Spike was better, clocking in at a respectable 30 seconds.
“It’s been amazing,” Maxey said of the experience. “I’ve been able to walk around and see a lot of different dogs… I wish my dogs could come here and learn some skills… They got me out here sweating. Like I just played a whole quarter. I think I’m going to stick to staying on the court.”

This was a very cute and unexpected event for an NBA star to attend. It’s a testament to Maxey’s wholesome vibe as well; the Sixers man is impossible to hate. The good energy from this lovely clip can only be good karma for Philly this season.
