The Warriors are expected to sign Curry, 35, to a veteran minimum contract for the rest of the season on Monday. Because Golden State is so close to the second apron ledger that the franchise is hard-capped, the Warriors waited until they had enough financial flexibility to add him to their roster.Â
Curry, the younger brother of two-time MVP Steph Curry, led the NBA in 3-point percentage last season for the Hornets. He’s a career 43.3% marksman over 11 seasons.Â

His prorated veteran minimum salary will be worth roughly $1.7 million. Nov. 11 was the first day the Warriors could feasibly sign Curry, but every passing day gave them more cap breathing room, which could be helpful in the event of a midseason trade.
Curry arrives at an important time for the Warriors, whose guard depth chart is in flux amid an 11-10 start. It doesn’t help that his brother, Steph Curry, is sidelined with a quad contusion that knocked him out of Wednesday’s loss to the Rockets and forced him to miss Saturday’s game against the Pelicans.
Both Brandin Podziemski and Gary Payton II have had up-and-down starts to the season, but each player delivered important minutes in Saturday’s 104-96 win over the Pelicans as Payton scored 19 points off the bench while Podziemski finished with 15 points, six assists, and five rebounds.
Buddy Hield has also opened the season cold, shooting 30.8% from behind the 3-point arc. The Warriors want to space the floor with more shooters, especially in lineups centered around Jimmy Butler, so perhaps Seth Curry could become an option if Hield continues to struggle.Â
De’Anthony Melton, meanwhile, is in the late stages of his ACL rehabilitation and make his season debut as soon as the team’s upcoming road trip, which begins on Thursday with a game in Philadelphia against the 76ers.
Whenever Curry checks in for the first time as a Warrior, it’ll be the first time he and his brother play for the same team in the regular season. They spent the 2013 training camp together before Seth joined the Santa Cruz Warriors, but otherwise haven’t worn the same uniforms since they were in high school at Charlotte Christian.Â
“I think it’s going to be really fun to watch those two on the court together,” their high school coach Shonn Brown told The Standard last month. “What better way to make memories?”Â
Seth had long resisted the idea of teaming up with his older, globally famous brother because he wanted to forge his own path. He said both Steve Kerr and general manager Mike Dunleavy had gauged his interest about possibly joining the Warriors in recent years.Â
“It just feels like [Steph and Seth are] both at a point in their careers where this makes a ton of sense,” Kerr said during the preseason.Â
Kerr is still tinkering with his rotation, trying to find lineup combinations that consistently work. The puzzle pieces haven’t yet fit.Â
Now he has another piece to place.Â
