NBA legend LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers won’t play against the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.
James is out because of left foot injury management.
Along with James, the Lakers will face the Pelicans without Marcus Smart, who is dealing with back spasms.
James, 40, has appeared in four games this season. He’s averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game while shooting 49.1% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 50.0% from the free-throw line.
The leading scorer in NBA history, James missed the first 14 games of the season because of sciatica on his right side. The future Hall of Famer turns 41 in December. He’s the oldest active player in the NBA.
James becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season for the first time since 2018. It’s unknown if the Akron native will play next season.
The Lakers are 14-4. They are in second place in the Western Conference standings.
Los Angeles plays again on Monday against the Phoenix Suns.
