After a turbulent start to the season, the Memphis Grizzlies are finally finding their rhythm, securing their third straight win on Sunday night. With Ja Morant sidelined, standout center Zach Edey stole the spotlight, delivering the best performance of his young career and one that placed him alongside Shaquille O’Neal in an exclusive NBA club.

Standing 7-foot-3 and weighing 305 pounds, Edey was simply unstoppable in Sunday’s matchup against the Sacramento Kings. The towering center poured in 32 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, leading the Grizzlies to a 115-107 victory as Sacramento struggled to contain his size and strength.

Edey’s 32 points were seven more than his previous career high, achieved on an incredibly efficient 16-of-20 shooting, without a single three-pointer or free throw. He also recorded a career-best five blocks, helping Memphis extend its winning streak to three games. With this historic stat line, Edey became the first player to accomplish such a performance since O’Neal.

“When he’s by the rim and we don’t fight early, it’s going to be easy for him,” Kings guard Malik Monk said about Edey. “He’s too big, too strong. He just lays the ball in, and we didn’t do our job early, so we made it easy for him.”

For the Kings, DeMar DeRozan led with 23 points, and Monk added 21, but Sacramento struggled overall, shooting just 45.7% from the field and 29.6% from three, compared to Memphis’ 52.3% and 37.5%, respectively.

After the Kings briefly took a 103-102 lead with 4:51 remaining, Edey took over down the stretch. He gave Memphis the lead for good on an interior finish off a Jaren Jackson Jr. assist, converted an offensive rebound into a hoop 52 seconds later, and slammed home a lob from Vince Williams Jr. to make it 108-103 with just over two minutes left.

The Grizzlies received additional scoring support from Cam Spencer (16 points), Jaylen Wells (15), Jackson Jr. (13), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (13), and Cedric Coward (10). Memphis opened the second half with a 10-0 run, turning a 62-59 halftime edge into a 13-point lead that Sacramento couldn’t overcome.

A Canadian native, Edey had a delayed start to the season but has impressed in his first eight games, averaging 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per contest, proving he’s quickly becoming one of the league’s most dominant big men.

With the win, Memphis moved to 9–12 on the season, climbing to ninth place in the Western Conference standings. The Grizzlies will look to keep their momentum rolling on Tuesday night when they travel to the Frost Bank Center to face the San Antonio Spurs.
