Indiana basketball vs. Minnesota expert predictions

Zach Osterman, IndyStar: Indiana 76-65

“In this season’s first battle of Big Ten coaches formerly of Drake, Darian DeVries is in much better shape. Niko Medved’s hire at Minnesota was rightly greeted with praise, but the road to consistent competitiveness in Minneapolis is still pretty long. The Gophers don’t have much of a 3-point threat to speak of, and while they get to the free throw line a lot, they struggle there. Defensively, they’re a work in progress. Indiana doesn’t always play well at The Barn, but it’s also been a while since the Hoosiers lost there.”

Michael Niziolek, Herald-Times: Indiana 80-63

“The backstory to this matchup with IU coach Darian DeVries facing Nico Medved might be more interesting than the game ends up being. Medved landed the Drake job in 2017 over DeVries, only to leave the school a year later. The success DeVries had as Medved’s replacement ultimately helped him land the IU job earlier this year. They landed in the Big Ten at the same time, but DeVries assembled a more talented roster that’s displayed some impressive chemistry during their 7-0 start. The Gophers look much more like a work in progress, having lost three straight entering Wednesday’s game. This should be an easy double-digit win for the Hoosiers.”
