The Chicago Bulls are looking for a spark in their rotation after being in a bad stretch.  With the team looking to get some more depth, especially in the frontcourt right now, any injury updates that are trending positive would be great.

On Monday evening, the Bulls were able to get such news regarding a key rotation piece. Let’s take a closer look as to who it is and what it would mean for the Bulls going forward.

The Bulls have been dealing with the injury bug as they have a few players looking to get back on the court. On a day when they got some tough news about guard Coby White, the team got some positive news about power forward Zach Collins.

Coach Billy Donovan spoke ahead of Monday’s game and provided an update on Collins. Donovan told reporters that Collins has officially been cleared for contact.

However, that does not mean he will be checking into a game right away.

Donovan would discuss how he wants to allow the power forward to get a few practices in before putting him into a game. The hope on their side of things is for Collins to get some practices in with the Windy City Bulls durng the week and hopefully be ready to play for the Chicago Bulls by the end of the week. The Bulls have a three-game homestand over the next week as they host the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, the Indiana Pacers on Friday, and the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.

This is going to be intriguing to see how Collins plays following his injury. He suffered a non-displaced left wrist fracture in the preseason finale against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He then underwent surgery to repair it. Collins is not asked to do too much, but did play 28 games (eight starts) for Chicago last season. In his 19.7 minutes, he averaged 8.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. That included a 54.1/30.0/88.4 shooting split.

With the ability to give Nikola Vucevic some additional rest,  it will be intriguing to see how the Bulls use Collins. It will also be interesting to see how he plays.

He is in a contract year, so there’s some motivation there. Hopefully he can develop into a piece the Bulls can count on.
