The Phoenix Suns will be without their star player for one week.
Devin Booker sustained a right groin strain against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday and will be re-evaluated in one week, the team announced Wednesday.Â
The 11-year Suns veteran is averaging 25 points and 6.7 assists per game this year with the team holding a surprising 13-9 record.
Before leaving Monday’s game in the first quarter, Booker was off to a typically enjoyable start, putting up 11 points while also adding three assists and two rebounds. The Suns were down 27-26 at the time but did end up winning 125-108, regardless of Booker’s absence.Â
With Booker out of commission, Collin Gillespie is expected to take on point-guard duties. Gillespie had a season-high 28 points in Monday’s big win against the Lakers.
Last season, the Suns guard was also injured in December, missing five games due to a different groin injury.
The timeline means Booker is set to miss a three-game road trip where they will make stops in Houston, Minnesota, and Oklahoma City within the next week.Â
The Suns are also missing Jalen Green, who is sidelined for the foreseeable future with a right hamstring strain.
