About 20 hours ago, the Spurs were wrapping up a tough home win against the Memphis Grizzlies. While Luke was getting whacked repeatedly in the face by Zach Edey’s flailing arms and Jeremy Sochan was getting down on the court to wrestle with Zach … the Spurs staff was readying the team plane for a trip to Orlando, which the players boarded shortly after the end of last night’s game. None of the players that were in last night’s game are listed on the injury report, which just has the familiar inclusions of Castle, Wembanyama, and McLaughlin, plus two of the two players who are with the Austin team.

David Jones Garcia, who barely got on the court last night, is with the team and might see some more minutes tonight as some of the regulars might need breaks. Devin Vassell played 28 minutes last night, which was lowest among the starters, so he just might have some gas left in the tank for the Magic. Harrison Barnes played 36 minutes, but he’s checked in to 338 consecutive games at this point, so his durability is not in question. Dylan Harper continues to impress, and he could get a nice long stretch tonight, along with Carter Bryant, who makes spectacular plays and rookie mistakes in abundance at this early point in his career. Jeremy Sochan looked to be breaking out of his slump a bit against the Grizzlies, so he could be a big part of the game tonight.

The Magic are in the mix in the Eastern Conference, and they will be a tough out. With Paolo Banchero out for much of the season so far, they’ve relied of Jalen Suggs and Desmond Bane to take up the scoring slack and keep them in the mix. This will be a tough game for the Spurs to win, especially on zero rest, but it would be good to start the current road trip on a positive note, which will continue with the Cavs on Friday, the Pelicans on Monday, and then a trip to Los Angeles on Wednesday for the opening game of the NBA Cup tournament. The team has been really cohesive with two of their top players out for an extended period, and it’s going to be great if they can hold on for another week or two before their return.

Carter Bryant is almost late to shootaround because he got lost at the Star Wars exhibit in Disney World.
