It’s not unreasonable to suggest the Minnesota Timberwolves could chase a championship this season. But on Tuesday night, Chris Finch’s group needed overtime just to slip past a 3-18 New Orleans Pelicans team, a reminder that the road is far from smooth.

One thing is clear, though: the problem in Minnesota certainly does not lie with Anthony Edwards. The franchise star knows he has to elevate to an entirely new level in order to win a ring. He’s working towards that daily, and he won’t stop short of achieving it.

Timberwolves Get a Guarantee From Anthony Edwards

Edwards has been a dynamic force since the moment he entered the league. The No. 1 Pick in the 2020 draft continues to push the limits of his game, and his latest comments make it clear he’s nowhere close to finished.

Anthony Edwards on bringing a championship to Minnesota:

“Don’t worry about it. I’m going to make it happen. I’m going to get fly as hell to where they can’t stop me.”

If there’s one person who will never doubt Anthony Edwards’ greatness, it’s Anthony Edwards. At just 24 years old, he remains relentless, pushing himself forward with a level of tenacity few players can match.

Although he missed some time earlier this year, Edwards has appeared in 17 games and is averaging a career-best 29.8 points per game. Last season, he led the NBA in three-pointers made, and his 41.3% mark from deep this year is an improvement over his already strong 39.5% clip in 2024.

Edwards is currently riding a streak of six straight games with more than 30 points, and he’s cleared 40 in half of them.

Michael Jordan Dotes on Anthony Edwards

You can debate the running joke about whether Anthony Edwards might be Michael Jordan’s long lost son, but the comparison speaks to something real: Edwards would love to reach Jordan’s heights, and the NBA legend had him on his mind this offseason.

Michael Jordan:

“I had a conversation this summer with a high executive at Minnesota and he was talking about Anthony Edwards. I heard during the course of the year that they were double teaming (him). He didn’t know how to deal with the double team…those are the types of… pic.twitter.com/rKEmOJHCX9

Edwards knows who the greatest player of all time is, and Jordan has firsthand experience with the pressures and evolution Edwards is now navigating. As the Timberwolves star continues finding his place in the league, more layers of his game will undoubtedly emerge.

Minnesota is witnessing something special as Edwards continues tapping into his immense potential. And given what he’s already producing, it’s wild to think we still haven’t seen his ceiling. The Timberwolves will need even more if they are going to win a title, and Edwards remains the most likely player to deliver it.
