The Denver Nuggets continued their impressive start to the season on Wednesday night, picking up their eighth straight road win with a 135–120 victory over the short-handed Indiana Pacers. This time, it wasn’t Nikola Jokić at the center of the offensive explosion as Jamal Murray stole the spotlight.

Murray erupted for a season-high 52 points, carrying Denver to the win and joining an elite club alongside NBA legends Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain in the process.

Jamal Murray Makes NBA History In Nuggets-Pacers Game

Murray entered Wednesday’s matchup listed as questionable with a sprained right ankle. Still, he not only suited up, but the 28-year-old also delivered one of the best performances of his career.

Murray erupted for 52 points, shooting an incredible 19-of-25 from the field and 10-of-11 from three-point range. He finished just three points shy of his career high while adding six rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

In doing so, he became only the third player in NBA history to record multiple 50-point road games on 75% shooting or better. The only other players to accomplish this feat? Jordan and Chamberlain had two and three such games, respectively.

“He was really good,” Jokić marveled over Murray’s performance. “He had amazing energy. He was aggressive, getting into the shot and shooting the ball. He was really impressive.”

Murray also became the third Nugget to score 50 points this season, joining Jokić and Aaron Gordon, who hit the mark in November and October. It marks the first time in NBA history that three teammates have each recorded a 50-point game within a team’s first 21 contests.

“I felt pretty good, honestly,” Murray said of his ankle. “You do a lot of treatment going into the game, and today, I felt good. Felt good. Maybe a little sore at the end of the first quarter, but it wasn’t nothing I couldn’t manage.”

Jokić nearly posted another triple-double, finishing with 24 points, eight rebounds, and 13 assists. Though he fell two rebounds short of back-to-back triple-doubles to start December, he still leads the league with 11 on the season.

Bruce Brown, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Peyton Watson also scored in double figures as Denver earned its third win in five games, improving to 15–6.

On the other side, Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 23 points, while Andrew Nembhard added 16 points and seven assists. Six Indiana players scored in double figures, but the Pacers have now dropped two straight after their first back-to-back wins of the season, falling to 4–18.
