Jaylen Brown is currently playing some of the best basketball of his career. The explosive forward has stepped into a bigger role this season, primarily due to the absence of Jayson Tatum, who is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. As such, Brown is operating as Boston’s primary scorer, which has allowed him to unleash his undoubted three-level scoring prowess.

Brown already has three 40+ point games in his first 21 outings of the season. Overall, he’s averaging 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game, shooting 49.9% from the field and 34.7% from three-point range. There’s no doubt that Brown is playing at an All-Star level and, if he continues to produce at his current clip, will likely be an All-NBA second or third team selection.

However, Brown’s elite play has led to some discussion regarding his future. After all, once Tatum returns to the rotation, Brown will be moved back into his secondary role, and after a season of leading the line, there’s no telling how that will play out. With that in mind, Mike Felger, Cerrone Battle and Jim Murray discussed Brown’s long-term future with the Celtics during a recent segment on “98.5 The Sports Hub.”

The trio pinpointed Brown’s supermax contract, his ability to lead a team and the Celtics’ overall retooling process as reasons why his tenure in Boston could potentially be nearing an end.
