Jud Whittaker, here scoring last season against Kimball, had 27 points in the season opener to lead the Chargers to an 83-49 victory over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Tuesday.

ATWATER – The Chargers boys basketball team came out red-hot in the second half, turning a four-point halftime lead into a convincing 83-49 victory over Atwater-Cosmos Grove City in the season opener for both clubs.
DC knocked down 10 of 18 three pointers in the second half, and had 15 in the game. They were paced by Jud Whittaker, who led all scorers with 27 points, while Kaleb Kraemer added 20, and Alec Anderson had 14 (all in the second half).
Kraemer and Anderson both had four three pointers, while Whittaker and Eli Smock – who had nine points – both added three.
“We introduced a bunch of new players this year to the varsity team, and it took us a little bit to find our rhythm,” said DC head coach Tony Dehler. “Defensively we were locked in from the beginning, forcing ACGC to take a lot of contested shots.”
With only a four-point lead at halftime, Dehler and his staff made a few adjustments, and it paid off big-time. DC outscored the Falcons by 30 in the second half, 53-23.
“I knew that once we started relaxing, more shots would go in,” said Dehler.
Dehler noted that the Khondoker brothers, Michael and Alec, dominated the boards the entire night, and really helped control the game. Michael Khondoker had five points, while Alec Khondoker had four.
David Jorgensen was the only Falcon in double figures, finishing with 12 points.
The Chargers will be home for their next three games. They host Kimball tonight (Friday), Paynesville Tuesday, and Providence Academy Thursday.
