Injuries have been an issue for Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant again this season. The two-time All-Star has sat out the last eight games for his team due to a calf issue, and there is currently no firm timetable for his return.

Morant has been limited to 12 games this season, averaging 17.9 points on 35.9% shooting, 3.5 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 1.0 steals in 28.8 minutes per contest. With Morant in and out of the lineup, the Grizzlies have struggled to find their footing in the early part of the season. They are currently 9-13.

It has been a tumultuous campaign thus far for Morant. Apart from the injuries, the 6-foot-2 point guard has also been plagued by trade rumors linking him to a move away from Memphis. Multiple reports have indicated that Morant, who still has three years remaining on his current deal with the Grizzlies, could be involved in a major trade before the February deadline.

For now, however, Morant and the Grizzlies are focused on getting their star player back on the court as soon as possible. On Thursday, Memphis head coach Tuomas Iisalo shared a crucial update on Morant’s road to recovery. According to the first-year NBA coach, Morant is progressing well in his ramp-up. Iisalo announced that Morant is currently day-to-day.

As the report indicates, Morant was able to take part in the Grizzlies’ practice session on Thursday. At this point, the former Rookie of the Year has a significant chance of returning for Memphis’ matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday.
