Cameron Johnson has started to turn around his slow start in Denver, and it may be in part because of Aaron Gordon’s recent advice that he offered Johnson on his new Old Man and the Three Podcast.
Johnson was announced as the host of the show on Monday, taking over for JJ Reddick, who left the show to coach the Los Angeles Lakers a few years ago. The Nuggets forward, with Tommy Alter, will do the show every Tuesday, “diving into the mechanics of the sport, discussing skills, strategy, and execution from an active player’s perspective, to give basketball fans a deeper understanding of the game, while keeping it accessible for casual fans as well as ‘NBA sickos.’”

On the floor, Johnson is also in the midst of a big change, joining the Nuggets in return for Michael Porter Jr. The wing got off to a slow start, especially with his shot, but has improved significantly in the last several games, which has been necessary with the injuries to Christian Braun and Gordon. The fan-favorite Nuggets power forward was a guest on the show and offered Johnson some advice that seemed to resonate when the two sat down for the first episode.
“Just be Cam Johnson. Be yourself. That’s it. That’s all we need,” Gordon said. “The end of the day, I believe, we’re going to be the ones that walk off with a win. We’ll be the last team to win. Everyone else is going to hold an L at the end of the season. Except for us. We’re going to be the ones to win at the end of the season.”

The Nuggets have made it clear they’re chasing a championship. For Johnson, that means getting back to the NBA Finals, where he was once up in a series early in his career before losing to the Bucks. For most of the rest of the group, it’s trying to get a second ring.
