A SAN Antonio Spurs announcer had shock awakening live on air this week.
Trying anything live on air for the first time is risky business – and the Spurs announcer learned that the hard way on Thursday night.

Jacob Tobey and analyst Sean Elliott were previewing the evening’s game between the Spurs and Orlando Magic when the former decided to show the audience the effect of smelling salts.
As you can see by the video, Tobey is not prepared for just how powerful the salts are.
Elliot stated all along that he was not going to join his partner for this one and cut a smug figure after watching the results.
“I told you! That’s what I didn’t do it,” he said.

Tobey took his momentary moment of comedy in good stride, even if it was at his expense.
Writing on X, Tobey said, “Hey kids, don’t try smelling salts, especially on live television.
“At least I’m awake for this back-to-back.”
In almost a promotional post, he also showed off the bottle he’d sniffed from, joking that he now had “energy, focus, and strength.”
After one person asked why he even had them in the first place, Tobey responded, “Our production truck has connections, apparently.”
Smelling salts are often used by athletes to sharpen focus right before action, or they’re used to restore consciousness after a heavy hit.
The salts have been getting more traction in the news after 49ers star George Kittle caused a stir by claiming they were banned by the NFL.
But the league only stopped providing them whereas players could still bring their own.
Tobey is the current TV play-by-play announcer for the San Antonio Spurs.
Prior to landing his job in San Antonio, he was a weekend sports anchor at 9NEWS in Denver, Colorado, for four years.
