No. 13 Georgetown College men’s basketball split its weekend contests in “The Show” at Meadowview Resort in Kingsport, Tennessee.
The Tigers took down University of Mobile, 89-68, on Saturday, before their eighth-game winning streak ended Sunday in overtime, 84-76, at the hands of Shawnee State University.
GC exploded to leads of 8-0 and 18-3 against Mobile, which rallied as close as seven points before the Tigers used a 24-16 closing run to enjoy a 46-31 advantage at the break.
Rashad Bishop put up 13 of his team-high 18 points in the second half, including a dunk that gave Georgetown its largest lead of the night, 81-53.
Scotty Browning and Zion Harmon each added 14 points for the Tigers, who shot 55.7 percent from the field. The Tigers (9-3) went 15-for-32 from 3-point range and carved out huge disparities in the rebound (42-31) and assist (21-9) categories.
Against Shawnee State, Julius Edmonds scored a career-high 19 points for Georgetown, which played catch-up throughout.
Shawnee State led 32-24 at halftime and stretched it to 44-31 with 13:54 remaining in regulation before GC stormed back.
Darien Lewis’ layup at the 7:22 mark initially got it back to a one-point game at 52-51,
The Bears inched back in front, 66-61, with less than a minute to play before a layup by Browning and a 3-pointer from Bubba Leavell forced the extra session.
SSU scored the first eight points in overtime, when it went 7-for-12 from the field to ice the victory.
Isaiah Mason finished with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds, but the Bears owned a 48-35 advantage on the glass.
Lewis added 17 points for the Tigers, who hosted Simmons College on Thursday.
