The Brooklyn Nets had their first winning streak of the season when they beat the Charlotte Hornets for their first home win of the season and the Chicago Bulls on the road. Brooklyn suffered a disappointing less at home to the Utah Jazz after the Nets didn’t continue their strong play in the fourth quarter, but it looks like their injury report is just getting longer.

The Nets announced on Friday that forward Noah Clowney is probable for Saturday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans due to back soreness. Clowney played 34 minutes in Thursday’s 123-110 loss to the Jazz and he had one of his best games of the season to the tune of 29 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three blocks while trying to fill the void of forward Michael Porter Jr. being out of the lineup.

Clowney being listed as probable is good news for a Nets team that can ill-afford for a player of his caliber to be out of the rotation while guard Cam Thomas is still on the mend with his left hamstring strain. Clowney, 21, is having a breakout season in his third year in the league with averages of 13.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 42% from the field and 35.9% from three-point land.

If Clowney is unable to play on Saturday against the Pelicans, that could mean that Porter would slide down to the power forward spot with Terance Mann stepping in at small forward. In the past two games, guard Tyrese Martin has been starting at shooting guard so it looks like he would keep his starting role if Clowney is unable to take the floor on Saturday.

Despite the fact that Mann suffered a tough fall in Thursday’s loss to Utah and guard Egor Demin dealing with a respiratory issue, neither player is listed on the injury report. The good news is that Porter is not listed on the injury report either so Brooklyn’s leading scorer should be good to go after the Nets sat him down on Thursday as they’re trying to monitor his lower back tightness issue.
