If we’re taking Leon Rose at his press-release words — which represent his only form of public communication these days — then the Knicks absolutely have to blitz for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Remember when Rose and James Dolan fired Tom Thibodeau in June, when the team president explained the shocking decision with these words at the very top — “Our organization is singularly focused on winning a championship …”
It was, in my opinion, the most meaningful nine words from the front office since it took over. They weren’t exactly true or all-encompassing (there were other reasons Thibs was fired). But it’s important to be consistent.
So if you’re claiming you fired a successful coach because you want to win a championship, then you better do everything you can to win that championship.
