SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — West Valley girls basketball had its home opener Friday night, and used a steady offensive attack to pull away from Shadle Park in a 44-28 home win.

The Eagles jumped ahead early as Joey Fried found Avery Spunich for a pump fake and smooth mid-range jumper to make it 5–1. Moments later, Rylie Jones grabbed an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Monroe Cummins, who banked in another bucket to extend the lead.

West Valley kept the ball moving, with Cummins and Spunich connecting on a cross-court exchange that ended in another Spunich finish as the Eagles pushed the margin to nine.

Shadle Park found a spark in transition when Makenzie Fagar sliced through the lane for a layup, but the Highlanders couldn’t string together enough stops to close the gap.

West Valley controlled the pace the rest of the way, securing a 44–28 victory.
