The Golden State Warriors face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 4:30 PM PT in Cleveland and can be watched on NBA TV and NBC Sports Bay Area.
Previously with the Warriors:
Golden State dropped its second straight game on Thursday night, losing 99–98 to the Philadelphia 76ers. Without Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler in the lineup, the Warriors started the night off flat and trailed 56–34 at halftime. However, a strong second-half push brought them all the way back, highlighted by Pat Spencer’s 16-point performance and a clutch three that briefly gave the Warriors a four-point lead in the final minute of the game.
Golden State couldn’t close it out though, going scoreless the rest of the way as five unanswered points from Philadelphia — capped by rookie VJ Edgecombe’s game-winning tip — sealed the loss.
What to watch for tonight:
The Warriors are expected to be shorthanded once again as Curry remains out for the road trip with a quad injury, while Al Horford sits tonight as part of the team’s back-to-back management. Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler are also among multiple Warriors’ players listed as questionable.
Golden State’s perimeter defense will be a focal point against Cleveland. In three of their last four outings, the opposing team’s point guard has topped 30 points, including Tyrese Maxey’s 35 on Thursday.
Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell enters tonight’s matchup averaging 30.6 points per game — fourth in the NBA — posing another major challenge. The Warriors did get a promising debut from De’Anthony Melton, whose presence should help defensively, but they’ll need a more collective effort to snap their current two-game skid.
