For Syracuse’s their first true road game of the season, they arrive riding a two-game winning streak thanks to a gritty 66–60 overtime win over Auburn Tigers in the ACC/SEC Challenge. That victory was impressive: the Orange fought through a 0-for-16 start from three before mounting a comeback.
Offensively, the Orange have three players averaging double digits. Graduate guard Dominique Darius leads the way with 12.9 points per game (she dropped 20 in the Auburn win). Meanwhile, freshman Uche Izoje is putting up 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, leading Syracuse in rebounds and ranking among the national leaders in blocks. Senior guard Laila Phelia adds scoring punch too, averaging 13.4 points per game.
Defensively and on the glass, Syracuse is dominating — they rank ninth nationally in offensive rebounds and sit second in their conference for both steals and blocks. That said, their three-point shooting remains a weak spot, with only a 24.2% clip through eight games.
SMU comes in with a 4–5 record under first-year head coach Adia Barnes, offering Syracuse a golden opportunity for their first ACC road win, and a chance to head into a comfortable homestand at 8–1.
