Calendar year 2025 has less than a month left, and Week 7 of the NBA made sure this December would go down in history.

From farewell tours being cut short to streaks being broken, these moments are the most memorable from the past week in the NBA.

LeBron James’ double-digit streak ends

It finally happened.

One of the most historic streaks in sports history ended when LeBron James failed to score at least 10 points in a regular-season game for the first time after doing it for 1,297 consecutive games. James’ streak has come close to ending several times since he started it on Jan. 6, 2007, but Father Time remains undefeated after the 21-time NBA All-Star finished with eight points in a 123-120 win against the Raptors on Dec. 4.

One thing to note is this was a regular-season streak. In James’ first title run with the Miami Heat, he scored only eight points against the Dallas Mavericks in Game 4 of the 2011 NBA Finals. James said after the game, “The fact that it (scoring less than 10 points for the first time in the playoffs) happened in a loss is the anger part about it. That’s all that matters to me. If I’d have had eight points and we won the game … I don’t really care about that.”

Fast forward to 2025, and James’ regular-season streak ended after dishing a game-winning dime to Rui Hachimura in the corner for a 3 to close out a contentious back-and-forth affair against Toronto.

After the Raptors game, James was asked what he felt now that his streak is over.

“None,” James replied. “We won.”

He echoed these sentiments when speaking to The Athletic’s Dan Woike, “This is the best way. If it had to end, the perfect ending for the streak is tonight,” James said. “It’s literally who I am. That’s who I am. … It’s always been about: ‘How can I win the game?’”

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s murky future

The Giannis Antetokounmpo rumor mill is back in full swing — again.

On Wednesday, with his Milwaukee Bucks having lost eight of nine games, reports resurfaced that Giannis would be meeting with the Bucks front office to discuss his future.

Yet while the reports indicated that the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and his representation were having conversations with the Bucks, team sources downplayed the severity of the situation in conversations with The Athletic and indicated there has been no formal trade request.

Doc Rivers: “I want to make it clear for the – I want to say one more time – for the 50th time, and clearly it’s not getting to one network, for sure, Giannis has never asked to be traded. Ever. I can’t make that more clear.” https://t.co/e6XSo0OuP8

It would be a tough look on Antetokounmpo to request a trade when reflecting on the comments he made after the Bucks beat the Phoenix Suns in the 2022 NBA Finals.

“It’s easy to go somewhere and go win a championship with somebody else … I could go to a super team and just do my part and win a championship. But this is the hard way to do it, and this is the way.”

Three years later,  the NBA world is anxiously waiting to find out if Antetokounmpo may have a change of heart.

Chris Paul’s farewell tour ends abruptly

Earlier this season, Chris Paul announced it would be his last year in the NBA, preparing fans to plan ahead to potentially see the “Point God” take the court one last time during his “farewell tour.” Then he was sent home this week.

That leads to the long-term ramifications for perhaps the franchise’s greatest player. How the Clippers will be greeted by their home fans will be fascinating. LA’s previous return from a multi-game road trip allowed fans to acknowledge Paul’s retirement.

The Athletic’s Law Murray reported that Intuit Dome had a tribute video ready for Paul on the last day of NBA Cup group play. Awkward.

Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank was asked this week how he expects the Clippers — after the fallout over Paul’s departure — will be able to attract a player of CP3’s stature.

“I think you own it,” Frank said. “You give context to everything. I don’t think you hide from it. … With that being said, you still have to do what’s right for the team and organization, and we still feel that we have a terrific organization.”

The Clippers’ next home game is Dec. 15 against the Memphis Grizzlies. Get your popcorn ready.

Honorable mentionCooper Flagg is getting comfortable

Rookie Cooper Flagg, at 18 years and 351 days as of today, is the youngest NBA player to log a minute this season. The No.1 overall pick came into the NBA with lofty expectations after an impressive season at Duke and years of hype following him through high school. Flagg averaged 13.9 points and three assists while shooting 40.3 percent from the field in his first 10 games.

In his last 14 games, he’s up to 19.7 points on 51.9 percent shooting.

Since Nov. 9, Flagg’s 46 clutch-time points trail only Cade Cunningham for the NBA lead. Flagg is shooting 69.6 percent in such situations over that span, per NBA.com. In that time, he has also seen an improvement on his field goal percentage by shot type, as seen below.

Kon Knueppel, the No. 4 overall pick in 2025 and Flagg’s teammate at Duke, still leads all rookies in points per game (18.2), but Flagg’s surge has him nipping at Knueppel’s heels with 17.3.

It seems like a two-man race for Rookie of the Year, but Jeremiah Fears (Pelicans), VJ Edgecombe (76ers) and Cedric Coward (Grizzlies) are not to be ignored as they continue to make a positive impact.

What to watch

The NBA Cup quarterfinals start Tuesday, and the players seem eager for a chance not only to go to Vegas, but potentially win an additional $530,933 mid-season.
