Tim MacMahon: Trading AD is a real possibility—and I would even say likelihood—this season. Trading Kyrie is not something that’s on the Mavericks’ priority list, or it’s just straight up not something that they are interested in doing right now.” YouTube | Nov. 27, 2025
Tim MacMahon: So Kyrie signed—uh, it wasn’t even an extension. He—he opted out and signed a three-year deal this summer. So he’s got this year and the next two.” “What I would tell you about Kyrie is the Mavericks do not want to trade him.” YouTube | Nov. 27, 2025

What is the approach about Kyrie? Shams Charania: Teams are actually sniffing around Kyrie Irving: His availability on the court, potentially trade-wise, and his playing status the rest of the season. But my understanding is the Mavericks have made it clear privately that they want Kyrie Irving as a complete part of their future moving forward. He’s still in recovery and rehab from that ACL tear from March. He signed a three-year deal in the offseason, but the Mavericks value his leadership on the court, off the court, and his fit with Cooper Flagg. Cooper Flagg is going to need a point guard whenever he’s ready to be back out on the court, and you just see right now how much this team misses Kyrie Irving some of these close games that they’ve had. And that’s the difference, though, between the Kyrie Irving situation the Anthony Davis situation. They are listening to potential trade calls on Anthony Davis, but with Kyrie Irving, they want him a part of their future moving forward. Instagram | Nov. 21, 2025
Tim MacMahon: Kyrie Irving is making great progress in his recovery, but I would say his return this season is very much in question for other reasons. YouTube | Nov. 19, 2025
The Warriors were already a model, established franchise with Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Steve Kerr, allowing Durant to simply step in and raise an already high ceiling. In Brooklyn, Kyrie Irving carried the torch and bore the brunt of public perception, with Durant and James Harden forming a support staff. And in Phoenix, his previous stop, Devin Booker had been cemented as the Suns’ leader for years. In other words, Durant never needed to be the loudest or most important voice in the room. “More than anything, I always wanted to be a guy that does s*** instead of says s***,” Durant told Yahoo Sports. “You could talk loud as you want, but if you’re not going out there and doing what you’re talking about, your teammates are not going to really respect it. So I always erred on the side of shutting up and going to work, and hopefully that inspires. But if I need to say something, if I feel something and something is on my heart, then I’ll come out and talk.” Yahoo! Sports | Nov. 19, 2025
