The Denver Nuggets had the best basketball player in the world this past week — his name? Jamal Murray.

The NBA named the Blue Arrow the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, December 1st to Sunday, December 7th. It’s Murray’s first win of the award, and it comes as the 19th different Nugget in franchise history to earn the honor. He’s the first other than Nikola Jokic to win the award since Paul Millsap in 2018.

Joker and Jamal led the Nuggets to three road wins to extend the Nuggets’ road winning streak to an NBA-best and franchise record 10 straight. Denver went 3-1 overall during the week, where Murray averaged 29.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game while shooting 59.5% from the field, 62.1% from three and 92.9% from the stripe.

Murray ranked fourth in the West in points per game and seventh in assists despite scoring just 10 points and leaving the Nuggets one loss of the week at halftime due to a sprained ankle on Monday against Dallas. That makes the fact that the seven-game stretch he’s on right now, which represents the sixth-most points he’s scored over any seven-game period in his NBA career, even more impressive.

Spectacular was Muray’s return from the ankle issue, coming two days later in Indy. While most wondered just when he’d come back on the floor, he was right back adn locked in. Against the Pacers, he scored a season-high 52 points, the most points scored in the NBA this week, the fifth-highest total this season, and the sixth-highest in Nuggets franchise history.

Murray shot a red-hot 19-of-25 from the field in the game. He made a career-high 10 threes on 11 attempts and shot just four-of-five from the free-throw line for a True Shooting Percentage of 95.6%, making it the sixth most efficient 50-point game in NBA history (Murray also owns the fourth most efficient 50+ game, accomplished in 2021, and the first is Aaron Gordon’s 50-ball against the Warriors earlier this year).

Murray then helped the Nuggets to a wild comeback where they out-scored the Hawks by 20 in the second half on Friday. In that game, he scored 23 points and threw 12 asssits as part of the 23-point turnaround. It was his fifth double-double of the season, tying how many he had last year.

Last night, he finished the week with another extremely efficient performance at Charlotte, scoring 34 points, with a career-high-tying 23 coming in the first quarter, on 14-of-25 shooting to go with five assists.

On the season, Murray is averaging 25.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.8 assists while shooting 50.6% from the field and 44.7% from three, all career-highs. He ranks 16 in points and 11 in assists per game.

An incredible week of an incredible season 🏹️

Maybe an inteironal All-Star Team selection is in his future. The only thing better than seeing Jokic in the event would be to see him joined by his longtime pal Jamal. Nuggets players have taken home three of the first seven Player of the Week honors between the terrific twosome.
