The Los Angeles Clippers made a shocking move on Wednesday, sending Chris Paul away from the team following some internal disagreements between the 21-year veteran and the team.
Paul spent six seasons with the Clippers in the 2010’s, establishing himself as a franchise legend with five All-NBA and All-Star selections as well as five Top-7 finishes in MVP voting during that time. He averaged 18.8 points and 9.8 assists per game in his first stint with the Clippers, and made the playoffs in all six seasons.
The 21-year veteran returned to the Clippers ahead of 2025-26, which he declared as his final NBA season, but things clearly quite work out. He has featured in 16 games this season, averaging 2.9 points and 3.3 assists on 14.3 minutes per game.

Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank released a statement to ESPN following the team’s decision, confirming Paul’s dismissal from the team.
“We are parting ways with Chris and he will no longer be with the team,” Frank said. “We will work with him on the next step of his career.”

Former NBA forward Blake Griffin spent a majority of his career with the Clippers, and made up half a dynamic duo with the “Point God.” Now an NBA commentator for Prime Video, Griffin recently spoke about the Clippers’ situation with Paul.
“This organization’s been through a lot,” Griffin said. “You can build a new arena, you can be at games, you can cheer on the team, you’re gonna have all this high energy but at the end of the day an organization is built on a foundation of respect and it’s built on how you treat people and I don’t think that in this situation Chris was treated right. I’m sorta at a loss for words a little bit.”

Paul’s absence from the squad adds another layer of complications to a free-falling Clippers team which has lost six of their last seven games and currently sits 14th in the Western Conference. With their chances of reaching the playoffs already slim-to-none, the Clippers need to sort out their internal issues to find any hope of stabilizing their season.
