Despite a turbulent offseason, the Devin Booker-led Phoenix Suns are faring well in 2025. The team has had a decent 13-10 start to their new campaign, effectively building their roster around Booker.

However, with Booker suffering from a groin injury, the Suns might have a roadblock in place as the 2025-26 season picks up. And while the team has been holding on without their leader, Booker’s presence is absolutely crucial as the current campaign heats up.

Devin Booker Injury Update: Will the Phoenix Suns Star Play vs. the Timberwolves?

Earlier this month, Booker and the Suns beat the Lakers 125-108. The Suns’ victory was surprising, furthering fan hopes for a successful playoff run next year.

However, their victory was overshadowed by Booker — who left the game 10 minutes after tip-off. And while the Suns walked away with their win, Booker was diagnosed with a groin strain.

Longtime NBA insider Shams Charania shared an update postgame, informing fans that Booker would be re-evaluated later.

“Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker has sustained a right groin strain and will be re-evaluated in one week, sources tell ESPN,” Charania wrote on Twitter (now X). “Best case for Booker and the Suns, who are a surprise 13-9 and in the West playoff picture so far this season.”

The Suns have played and lost against the Houston Rockets since then. As of now, Booker has been ruled out for their game against the Wolves.

In another update, coach Jordan Ott reassured fans that Booker is recovering well and will return when he’s at 100% health.

Having said that, Ott also revealed that Booker might play against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Dec. 10.

“We’ll continue to assess him day-by-day, but he’s been through this before. So he knows exactly where he’s at and his body and he’s made good progress in a short amount of time,” Ott told the media.

Jalen Green (right hamstring strain) and Isaiah Livers (right hip strain) have also been ruled out for the upcoming Wolves clash on Monday, Dec. 8.

Suns Players Consider Booker an Amazing Leader

When the Suns traded Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets, one intention was crystal clear — Booker was to be the cornerstone of their franchise.

In a preview interview, guard Collin Gillespie speaks on Booker’s ability as a player, while also praising his leadership.

“He’s vocal in terms of leadership with what he sees on the floor. Then he’s also a team guy,” Gillespire revealed to RG. “We all went to Flagstaff (Ariz.) to his place this summer. We were there for that for a few days and had a little minicamp with the rest of the team. So he’s been a great leader in our locker room with a bunch of younger guys and older guys. So he’s been awesome.

This season, Booker has been averaging 25 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game.
