The Houston Rockets are doing what they always do around the holidays- showing up for Houston in ways that actually matter. Every year the organization leans into its “Season of Giving,” and this December is no different. They’ve already kicked things off by focusing on families who need real, practical help, not just a feel-good photo op.
The biggest headline this season was the Rockets once again teaming up with 50 Cent’s G-Unity Foundation and Kroger for their Season of Giving Turkey Drive, providing an estimated 1,000 turkeys and full Thanksgiving meal essentials to underserved families in the Houston area. It’s become a true holiday staple- not just a giveaway, but a little bit of breathing room for people who really need it.

That builds on the work they’ve already done this year with the Houston Food Bank. Back in June, Rockets staff, legends Calvin Murphy and Allen Leavell, and partner Tito’s Handmade Vodka volunteered on-site, helping pack food and presenting a $20,000 “Assists for a Cause” donation that translates into roughly 240,000 meals for families across Greater Houston. That partnership doesn’t just flip on for one week in November- it’s part of a larger commitment to fighting food insecurity all season long.
And while all that’s happening, the Rockets’ youth programs keep rolling. Read Nation encourages thousands of kids to fall in love with books, Be Fit shows up in schools with health and fitness challenges, and the Junior Rockets Winter Break Skills Camp gives kids a place to hoop, learn, and burn off energy over the holidays.
Houston can talk about standings and box scores like everybody else, but this time of year, the Rockets are also doing something quieter and more important- making sure their city feels seen, fed, and supported when it counts.
