What an absolutely disgusting watch. Proceed with caution:

The Chicago Bulls got absolutely annihilated by the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night — losing the matchup 123-91.

EW. DISGUSTING.

WHAT WAS THAT?

No matter how you spin it, or which way you cut it — the effort from the Bulls on Sunday night was just absolutely abonimable. As our writer, Kelder, likes to say, “we watched, so you wouldn’t have to.”

PULSE CHECK

Yet again, the Bulls got crushed on the boards.

The Warriors secured 51 rebounds to Chicago’s 38 — behind efforts from Brandin Podziemski (21 points, eight rebounds, seven assists), Buddy Hield (9 points, seven rebounds), and Pat Spencer (12 points, five rebounds, six assists).

Those names stand out — because those are all guards crashing the boards for Golden State. Rebounds are indicative of effort. Former Bull, Jimmy Butler, was in the house — and he is notoriously known for challenging the effort of his teammates wherever he goes; his time here in Chicago was no different, and we proved him right yet again on Sunday.

Butler (19 points, eight rebounds, six assists) grabbed nearly as many rebounds as Chicago’s two big men combined—Vučević finished with six, and Zach Collins had four.

HEARTLESS

It was just another long night in a series of tough outings for this Bulls team — who have now lost seven straight games. For a young squad in the midst of a development year, though, wins and losses aren’t the ultimate measure of progress. What matters most is building good habits, forging an identity, and establishing a positive culture.

After getting off to an exciting and electric start to this season, this team has done nothing but play with horrible habits since. Habitually getting outhustled, and showing nothing but an abysmal lack of effort each night — with nothing but lip service in postgame interviews after each game to show for it. It almost makes it worse that the players and the coach seem to TALK ABOUT where they go wrong, instead of ACTIVELY going out onto the court and PLAYING like they actually want to fix those problems. Just disgusting. This team is playing like they have NO HEART.

PUNCHED IN THE MOUTH

From the moment this game tipped off, the Bulls got WHOOPED. Golden State came out and punched the Bulls right in the mouth — hitting their first four three-point attempts and never looking back. The Warriors won the first quarter 38-25.

On a night where both teams were without key pieces, the Bulls still should’ve had an advantage in the talent department. Coby White and Josh Giddey were both active, and both played horribly in this one. White finished the game with 12 points, one assist, and FOUR turnovers — while Giddey finished the game with 18 points, five assists, three rebounds, and FOUR turnovers as well. But for Giddey, while the numbers don’t seem too bad on paper, it was his effort on defense and overall hustle in general — that left A LOT to be desired.

Guys like Matas Buzelis and JeVon Carter showed up ready to play for this team, but they were the outliers. Matas (16 points, three steals) showed some of his bag from earlier in the season — repeatedly putting the ball on the floor and going at Golden State in the paint. He even caught a BODY near the end of the second quarter — a play which seemed like it would be the momentum boost this team needed, as they cut the lead down to eight on the play.

Golden State quickly answered that with a barrage of points of their own, though, as would be the case for the entire game. The Bulls could never quite close the gap.

lip-service

Once again, this team talks the talk after each game but never walks the walk. Whether it’s from the coach, Billy Donovan, or the players themselves, this is just a bad look.

What’s love got to do with it?

Seriously, this is a BAD LOOK. The coach HIMSELF is saying that this team doesn’t “care” about each other enough. But isn’t that the coach’s job? Isn’t the coach supposed to COACH these young players on how to be better, play better, and “show each other they care” about each other on the floor?

At least Jevon Carter (13 points, three steals, 3-5 3PFG) had something better to say. Luckily, it was something that this entire fanbase can agree with right now. GO OUT THERE AND DO YOUR JOB.

THANK YOU, JEVON.

That’s it. Go out there and compete. That’s all this fanbase, and anyone else can reasonably ask for. One day, the expectations and standards will be much higher. satisfaction from the fanbase will require much more minute details. But at the moment, the Bulls have the luxury of not being contenders; they’re supposed to be rebuilding. At this stage, the only thing that we can really ask for each night is that our team shows effort, leaves it all on the floor, and entertains us while they carve out an identity.

But they can’t even do that.

Massive changes are in order; hopefully sooner rather than later.

what’s on tap next

The Bulls get a four-day break from all the action.

I don’t know what needs the break more — their legs or my eyes.
They will travel to the Spectrum Center to face off against the Charlotte Hornets at 6 PM CT.

See you there, and …. See R-
whatever.
