Last week NBA fans and even Clipper fans were shocked to hear that Chris Paul was being released from the organization. The news of Clipper legend and the team’s franchise leader really confused a lot of people in the organization and fans across the league. Chris Paul who was set to retire at the end of the season was also shocked to hear that he was released by his team.
Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank texted a statement to the media confirming that Chris Paul was being released. “We are parting ways with Chris and he will no longer be with the team.” Lawrence Frank went on and said he thanks Chris Paul who had a great career in the league 21 season in the NBA. “I accept responsibility for the record we have right now.”
With Chris Paul no longer on the Clippers, the team would have to waive him and pay out his $3.6 million salary, agree to a buyout or look to trade him which they can’t execute until Dec.15. The Clippers have lost 14 of their past 16 games, including a recent five straight losing streak. The Clippers are currently 6-18 and sitting at 14th in Western Conference standings.
With the loss of Bradley Beal due to injury and the sudden release of Chris Paul, the Clippers suddenly went from a playoff caliber team to a rebuilding team with a not great record. Clippers fans are hoping that their team will still have something to give the fans to cheer about the next couple months of the NBA season.
