Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe has turned heads in the 2025-26 season as he has shown a lot with his ability to impact the game in a number of ways while also coming up with big plays with the game on the line. He just has a poise that a lot of young players his age don’t have and he continues to be an important piece to the Sixers.
After scoring 15 points with five rebounds and three assists in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Edgecombe received a lot of love from Lakers big man Deandre Ayton. Both are natives of The Bahamas and it’s prideful for somebody like Ayton–the No. 1 pick of the 2018 NBA draft–to see a young player like Edgecombe represent the country in the NBA.

After the win over the Sixers, Ayton gave a lot of respect to Edgecombe for what he has been able to do in the league thus far.
Edgecombe recently battled Golden State Warriors guard Buddy Hield who also hails from The Bahamas. Sixers guard Eric Gordon–a respected veteran–is also from the country so this has been a big week for everybody involved in Bahamian culture.
