Chris Paul’s time on the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2025-26 season surely didn’t go as he envisioned, but he has moved on from his unceremonious exit when the team sent him home.
“I’m actually at peace with everything,” Paul said, per Jordan Greene of People. “More than anything, I’m excited about being around and getting a chance to play a small role in whatever anything looks like next.”
He also appreciates he now has more time with his family.
“I don’t regret anything,” the 40-year-old said. “I was in Atlanta with a whole bunch of family. It was my last time gonna be playing there. That’s life. The whole thing took on a life of its own, you know? But I’m excited to be back here with my family.”
The Clippers released a statement on Dec. 3 after deciding to move on from the future Hall of Famer.Â
“We are parting ways with Chris and he will no longer be with the team,” it said. “We will work with him on the next step of his career. Chris is a legendary Clipper who has had a historic career. I want to make one thing very clear. No one is blaming Chris for our underperformance. I accept responsibility for the record we have right now. There are a lot of reasons why we’ve struggled. We’re grateful for the impact Chris has made on the franchise.”
However, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Paul’s “leadership style clashed with the Clippers” since he was “vocal in holding management, coaches and players accountable.”
NBA insider Chris Haynes also reported that head coach Tyronn Lue refused to meet with Paul when the point guard wanted to discuss allegations that he was negatively impacting the team.
All of this came after Paul indicated in November this would be his final season before retirement.
Now his future is even more up in the air, and it remains to be seen whether a team will add the veteran ahead of the stretch run. It also remains to be seen if he even wants to return to the NBA considering the amount of time he can now spend with his family after he and the Clippers parted ways.
Los Angeles is an ugly 6-18 on the season and is one of the most disappointing teams in the league.
It is also coming off two straight losses since moving on from Paul and will look to snap its losing streak Thursday when it faces the Houston Rockets.
