The Oklahoma City Thunder has been the best team in the NBA this 2025-26 season. In the first 24 games, they have gone 23-1. Their dominance proves they deserved to win the championship last season. Although it’s still a long stretch ahead, many believe the Thunder can set a new record.

The Thunder’s strong start to the season has entertained the fans and experts about how they can finish. Some believe they have enough depth and talent to come close to the 2015-16 regular-season record set by the Golden State Warriors.

NBA champion Kendrick Perkins predicted that the Thunder might go 80-2 based on how they’ve performed recently. Perkins was energized with OKC on Tuesday’s episode of “Road Trippin’.”

“They’re trying to win everything,” Perkins said. “They might go 80-2.

“I mean this with every big bone in my body. That 73-9 record that Golden State got, OKC beating that this year.”

Even his co-host, former NBA player Richard Jefferson, believes the Thunder has a shot at setting a new regular-season record.

It’s still early in the season for such a prediction. However, the Thunder has been the toughest opponent that most teams have faced this year. Even when they played without reigning league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on Dec. 7 against the Utah Jazz, the group was still dominant.

Perkins isn’t the only one who views the Thunder as a potential threat to the Warriors’ record. Four-time champion Draymond Green believes OKC is “capable” of breaking their record. Green spoke about it on his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show.”

“They’re literally plug and play. No matter who’s out of the lineup, they’re still a great team. They’re arguably still the best team in the NBA…. once you lose a couple of games, it starts to get tougher. In my opinion, they are capable of doing it,” Green said.

It will be a daunting task for the young Thunder team to win every game of the season.
