*This is a prediction*

There’s been a lot of talk lately about the Dallas Mavericks and a potential big move involving Anthony Davis as the NBA Trade Deadline approaches. With changes seemingly on the way for the Mavericks, it seems more than likely Davis is going to be traded for them to be able to reset things.

There have been a few teams linked to having interest in trading for Anthony Davis, but one team that makes sense to go through with the trade is the Atlanta Hawks.

Dallas Mavericks Trade Anthony Davis to the Atlanta Hawks

Dallas Mavericks Receive: Trae Young, Luke Kennard, 2026 First Round Pick

Atlanta Hawks Receive: Anthony Davis, 2027 First Round Pick

Things haven’t exactly gone according to plan since Anthony Davis arrived in Dallas. Injuries have been a recurring theme, limiting his availability and, consequently, his impact on the court. When he is healthy, he shows flashes of his superstar talent, but consistency has been a challenge. The Mavericks, currently struggling to find their footing in a season where they have started off with a 9-16 record, might be looking to reset some things as they are closer to a rebuild than actually contending.

The future for the Mavericks is clear; it is centered around Cooper Flagg and Dereck Lively II currently. But they need a more stabilizing force at the point guard spot, especially for the future as Kyrie Irving doesn’t have too many years left in the NBA. The Hawks have seemed hesitant to pay Trae Young, and seem to not have him envisioned as part of their long-term plans.

This trade would allow the Hawks to avoid the upcoming contract dilemma revolving around Trae Young, and for the Mavericks, they would get their legit scoring threat at the point guard position.

The Hawks have been looking to make a splash, and Davis, despite his injury history, represents a significant talent upgrade. Adding a player of Davis’s caliber could instantly make them a more formidable opponent. The Hawks have a solid young core with Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, and Zaccharie Risacher, yet they could use a better defensive presence with a player that can rebound and protect the paint.

Anthony Davis fits that bill perfectly. He’d immediately address some of their biggest weaknesses and give them the star power they’ve been missing. While the Hawks to still have Kristaps Porzingis, he has been limited this season, so adding Davis would create more of a balanced presence, allowing the Hawks to interchange both players while also giving them time off to stay healthy without jeopardizing the on-court production.

With this trade potential, it becomes a win-win for both sides.
