The Brooklyn Nets are in the midst of their second rebuild under general manager Sean Marks and the hope this time around is that they’re about to get their next franchise player in the draft. Brooklyn has been through plenty of organizational changes and interesting decisions over the years, but there are some around the league that believe the Nets‘ front-office is among the best around.
The Athletic recently conducted a survey of the best front-offices in the NBA, spanning across 36 executives, and the final result is that the Nets received some votes for being one of the best front-offices in the Association. To be clear, Brooklyn did not make the top-10 of the survey due to not accruing enough points, but they did receive a second-place vote, which is notable in of itself.
Two of the biggest moves that Marks and Brooklyn’s front office has made recently was drafting five players in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft and trading forward Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets. The Nets selected guard Egor Demin, guard Nolan Traore, forward Drake Powell, guard Ben Saraf, and forward Danny Wolf within the top-27 picks this past summer, leading many to believe that Brooklyn didn’t have much of a plan for the class.
In exchange for Johnson, Brooklyn received forward Michael Porter Jr. and Denver’s 2032 first-round pick, which many pundits believe is one of the most valuable first-round picks to have at this point in time. Granted, time will tell if the Nets end up using that pick to select a player for themselves or in a trade so that they can speed up this rebuild.
Either way, many around the league have had plenty of criticism for Marks over the past decade, especially with the trio of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving not lasting long or going further than the second-round of the playoffs. While all of those critiques are valid, it should be noted that there are still some around the league that think highly of Marks and the Nets’ front office.
