New Orleans Pelicans vs Portland Trail Blazers

Another year in which the New Orleans Pelicans have a reserved spot at the bottom of the Western Conference. The big question is what the future of this franchise looks like, given the fact that it’s clear the current roster doesn’t have much quality, and what’s even more important — not much potential either. The idea of a new team led by young players like Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball ended in failure, and only Williamson is still with the club, although it’s a real question for how long. In the current season they’ve continued losing, and it’s clear they cannot be satisfied with the results or the development of their players. At the moment, they are the worst team in the Western Conference with a record of three wins and 22 losses, and with that number of negative results they are the worst team in the league, since the Washington Wizards also have three wins, but three fewer losses.

Heading into this game, the New Orleans Pelicans are on a seven-game losing streak. In four of those seven games they were the home team, and in those games they looked noticeably better, as they suffered two overtime losses and one in a tight finish. That close loss came in the lead-up to this match, when they were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs 132–135. Nothing suggested there would be any drama, considering that the Spurs had a 20-point lead at halftime. However, an incredible comeback by the Pelicans followed, as they won the third quarter 45–23 and entered the final period with the lead. With 30 seconds left, they were up by one point, but the Spurs took the win thanks to points from Dylan Harper and De’Aaron Fox, who sealed the final score from the free-throw line. Young Derik Queen is in excellent form — he became the youngest player in history with a triple-double of at least 30 points. He finished the game with 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

The start of the season was very promising for the Portland Trail Blazers. The team opened the season with four wins in the first six games, and afterward defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder after a huge comeback, and it looked like they could take a step forward this year. However, a major decline followed. They haven’t managed to win back-to-back games since then and mostly keep losing. In their last six games they have only one win — on the road against the Cleveland Cavaliers, whom they beat 110–122. At the moment they are still in the play-in zone, as they share 10th place in the Western Conference with a record of nine wins and 15 losses.

Coming into this game, the poor form of the Portland Trail Blazers has continued. The mentioned win over the Cavaliers only briefly interrupted their streak of bad results. In the lead-up to this matchup they suffered two straight road losses. First they were beaten by the Detroit Pistons, and then the Memphis Grizzlies also proved better. In that game they were underdogs on paper, but they were defeated convincingly 119–86, and the game was practically decided already in the first quarter. The team played terribly on both ends, and after 12 minutes they were already down by 20 points. In such a situation, it wasn’t realistic to expect a comeback, and the Memphis Grizzlies eventually comfortably closed out the game. Jerami Grant played quite well with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Deni Avdija added 17 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists.

Zion Williamson and Dejounte Murray will not play for the home team, while Jordan Poole is questionable. Where to Watch New Orleans Pelicans vs Portland Trail Blazers?

New Orleans Pelicans vs Portland Trail Blazers Best Betting Tip and Prediction

The Portland Trail Blazers enter this game as favorites — and for good reason. It’s clear that they are not in particularly good form at the moment, which is evident from recent results, but they still possess more overall quality compared to their opponent. This especially applies to the individual contributions of their players, particularly in a situation where the home team’s three best players are injured. Therefore, our prediction is that the visiting team will justify their role as favorites and secure the win while covering the offered handicap.
