One of the players the Pelicans are reportedly starting to throw out in trade discussions is Trey Murphy. If this is the case, the Portland Trail Blazers need to be looking to acquire him.

New Orleans Pelicans Receive: Matisse Thybulle, Robert Williams, 2028 First Round Pick, 2029 First Round Pick, 2030 First Round Pick
For the Pelicans, they are going to most likely stay firm on their desire for three first round picks in return for a player the caliber of Trey Murphy. Luckily for them, the Trail Blazers have the draft capital to get the deal done. The Pelicans get the draft capital to get younger as a team, while also receiving two players in Williams and Thybulle that can help in them launching their rebuild.
For the Trail Blazers, they are in win-now mode, despite sitting with a 9-15 record. They have shown flashes of potential as a team, and the play from Deni Avdija this season that has led to him having his best season yet. Avdija is averaging 25.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game.
Between Avdija’s play, as well as Shaedon Sharpe, Jerami Grant, and Jrue Holiday, they have a solid core in place, but are missing just one piece to be true contenders. Trey Murphy is that missing piece.
With Trey Murphy’s two-way capabilities that lead to him making an impact on both offense and defense, coupled with his three-point shooting prowess, it makes him an ideal fit for the Blazers’ roster construction and timeline.
At just 24 years old, Trey Murphy has shown flashes of stardom. This season so far, Trey Murphy has averaged 21 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. His career 38.1% three-point shooting percentage makes him a highly coveted “3-and-D” wing. His potential ceiling as a shot-creator further enhances his value, making him an ideal player for the Trail Blazers to trade for to solidify the team going forward.
