Giannis AntetokounmpoGiannis Antetokounmpo isn’t even playing basketball right now, yet he’s arguably the most discussed player in the NBA at the moment.

Why? Because rumblings of a potential departure from the Milwaukee Bucks have surfaced once again, and fan bases across the league are hoping their team can get its hands on the former MVP.

Just in: Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent Alex Saratsis have started conversations with the Milwaukee Bucks about the two-time NBA MVP’s future – and discussing whether his best fit is staying or elsewhere, sources tell ESPN. Giannis being the subject of trade rumors isn’t anything new, but each time Shams Charania or another NBA insider reports that a trade could be on the horizon, it becomes the league’s biggest talking point.

But can you blame them? A two-way monster and franchise cornerstone doesn’t hit the trading block all that often.

With all that in mind, should the Detroit Pistons make a run at the Bucks’ superstar forward?

Giannis Antetokounmpo Sent to Pistons in Huge Proposal

The Pistons are in the midst of a transformation that we almost never see in the NBA.

After winning just 14 games two years ago, Detroit made the playoffs last season and now sits atop the East with a 19-5 record so far this year.

Powered by a duo of young stars in Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren, the Pistons have laid the foundation for long-term success.

Several of the pieces are in place, but many would argue that the Pistons are still one franchise pillar away from being real contenders. Morten Stig Jensen of Yahoo Sports has proposed a trade that would give them that third pillar.

It’s a trade that sends Giannis and a few ancillary pieces to Detroit in exchange for Jaden Ivey, Ron Holland II, Ausar Thompson, Tobias Harris, and a trio of future first-round picks.

“Detroit is in possession of all of its draft picks, so it can actually make a decent push for the former Finals MVP. But it’ll cost the Pistons multiple selections, and multiple prospects, which won’t be an easy thing to fork over. For the Bucks, needless to say, this is a package that offers them a chance of attacking a rebuilding process,” wrote Jensen.

Should The Pistons Make This Trade?

As the Pistons continue to improve and as their roster develops, their own picks will only decrease in value. Three firsts are far from nothing, but raiding the coffers isn’t a huge concern.

The devastating blow is losing a trio of young talents in Thompson, Ivey, and Holland.

Still, this would be a move worth making for the Pistons. As we’ve discussed, this is a strong team already, but they need an injection of established talent to really make the next step.

There are only a handful of players who could make a bigger difference than Antetokounmpo. He’d help form the most frightening frontcourt in the East, one that can dominate the paint on both ends of the floor.

With Cunningham also making an impact and facilitating everything, the Pistons would have a trio that could legitimately make a title run.

It’s a gamble on Antetokounmpo sliding in seamlessly alongside Duren and Cade, but it’s a risk worth taking.
