Game added to Phoenix Suns schedule after elimination from NBA Cup

  • December 11, 2025

PHOENIX (AZFamily/AP) — The Phoenix Suns have an additional game on their schedule after they were eliminated from the Emirates NBA Cup on Wednesday by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Phoenix will now play the Los Angeles Lakers in a regular-season game at Mortgage Matchup Center at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Tickets for the newly added game are now available!

The Suns were eliminated in the NBA Cup quarterfinal in a 138-89 thrashing by the Thunder. It was the most lopsided loss in Suns’ franchise history.

Dillon Brooks led the Suns with 16 points, but he made just 4 of 16 shots. It was the fewest points Oklahoma City has allowed this season.

Phoenix guard Grayson Allen was ejected after he shoved Holmgren and knocked him to the floor. The Thunder led 94-58 with 5:18 left in the third quarter when the two collided while Holmgren appeared to be setting a screen. Allen extended both arms, knocking Holmgren off balance, and was called for a Flagrant 2.

Wednesday was the third-straight game that Suns star Devin Booker missed with a strained right groin. Booker had scored 21 points in the previous matchup and said in the postgame that the “secret is out” about the Thunder’s league-leading defense.

With Wednesday’s win, the defending NBA champion Thunder improved their impressive record to 24-1, which ties for the best 25-game start ever to an NBA season. They’ll now go on to play the San Antonio Spurs in the semifinal on Saturday.
