Former Auburn, Arizona State, and Texas Tech forward Devan Cambridge will remain in the Big 12, with CBS’ Jon Rothstein reporting the 6’6 wing will transfer to UCF for what will be his seventh college basketball season.

Cambridge played just 14 total games the past two years at Texas Tech due to injuries, and one of his four previous seasons was the COVID shortened 2020-21 campaign.

That led to the NCAA giving him another year of eligibility – which he will spend joining a new-look Central Florida squad under head coach Johnny Dawkins.

The Knights went 20-17 last year, although their 7-13 record in conference play placed them just 12th. It’ll be a brand new team in 2025-26 though, with UCF’s four leading scorers all moving on – Darius Johnson (17.4 PPG) and Jordan Ivy-Curry (13.1) out of eligibility while Keyshawn Hall (18.8) and Moustapha Thiam (10.4) transferred to Auburn and Cincinnati, respectively.

Coach Dawkins did land a transfer portal class full of intrigue, with Mississippi State’s Riley Kugel, Georgetown’s Jordan Burks, and Villanova’s Kris Parker among the transfers joining Cambridge in Orlando.

Cambridge had the best full season of his career in 2022-23 with the Sun Devils, where he averaged 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds while starting 35 games on the last Bobby Hurley team to win a game in the NCAA Tournament – a 98-73 thrashing handed to Nevada in which Cambridge dropped 15 on 4-6 shooting.

The Sun Devils reportedly reached out to Cambridge about a possible reunion in Tempe, but now coach Hurley and his staff will have to look elsewhere for more help on the wing.

So far Arizona State has landed seven transfers in a busy offseason; guards Moe Odum (Pepperdine), Jake O’Neil (Idaho State), Adante’ Holiman (Georgia Southern), and Bryce Ford (Toledo) as well as forwards Allen David Mukeba (Oakland), Marcus Adams Jr (CSUN), and Santiago Trouet (San Diego).
