The Golden State Warriors are prime candidates to make a move ahead of the NBA‘s trade deadline in early February and considering Stephen Curry turns 38 years old later this season, the franchise figures to swing for the fences.

Golden State has held off on making any major moves involving players like Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski, who offer youth and salary filler to any potential blockbuster trade. The Warriors have also been hesitant to send Draymond Green out the door and break up the four-title tandem of he and Curry.

However, the time may have arrived for Golden State to jump on the opportunity to put another star-level offensive player alongside Curry and Jimmy Butler for the final stages of what has been a dynastic run spanning more than a decade in the Bay Area.

On Thursday, ESPN’s Kevin Pelton offered a complicated multi-team trade proposal that would see the Warriors link Curry and Butler with 10-time All-Star center Anthony Davis.

Davis would join the Golden State roster along with big man Mason Plumlee.

The Dallas Mavericks would acquire Green, Kuminga and a 2026 first-round pick from the Warriors. The Los Angeles Lakers would land Buddy Hield from Golden State, while the Charlotte Hornets would end up with Maxi Kleber, Dalton Knecht and cash considerations from L.A.

“Davis would be the rim threat as a roll man the Warriors have long sought,” Pelton wrote. “They could also save money this season by structuring this as a multi-team deal, sending Hield to a third team. In this case, he goes to the rival Lakers to supply the shooting threat they need.”

Pelton questioned whether breaking up the Curry-Green duo would actually be worth it, making the case for the deal from how much stronger the Warriors’ offense would be inside-to-outside by swapping Green out for Davis. Furthermore, Davis is also a much larger player than Green and has defensive chops of his own as a five-time All-Defense selection across his 14-year NBA career.

Davis boasts career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.2 steals per game.
