The Brooklyn Nets have had a few days off due to the quirkiness of how the NBA Cup schedule affects other teams, but the Nets aren’t complaining about the extra rest. While Brooklyn has had more time to practice, some of their young players have been able to continue honing their games and one of those young players appears to have turned a corner.

The Nets announced on Thursday that rookie guard Nolan Traore, who has played in just four of Brooklyn’s 23 games this season, has been recalled to join the main roster. Traore has spent most of his time this season playing for Long Island, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, but he has been playing well enough recently to be recalled by the Nets in advance of Friday’s road game at the Dallas Mavericks.

“I think I progressed in all aspects of the game… You don’t have to waste time on a bad play, you just have to keep going and be ready to play the next play. You just have to be focused and get to the next play faster,” Traore said after Thursday’s practice, per CJ Holmes of the New York Daily News. Traore, the 19th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, has been having a great season after a rough first couple of games playing against better competition.

As of this writing, Traore is averaging 18.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game while shooting 49.2% from the field and 43.1% from three-point land in 13 games played. Traore recently had his best performance of the season as he dropped 30 points, four rebounds, and six assists in a 125-106 win over the Delaware Blue Coats, the Philadelphia 76ers‘ G League afiliate, on Dec. 5.

With the Nets trying to balance winning each game while giving adequate playing time to as many rookies as possible, Traore was one of the players who was left out of the rotation by head coach Jordi Fernandez. However, with how well Traore is progressing in his development, Fernandez may see what Traore can do on Friday at the Mavericks.
