The defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder are off to an incredible start of the season at 24-1. They are also the favorites to win the NBA Cup in Las Vegas. Given the sheer dominance the Thunder have already shown this season, many fans and insiders are already pondering if the team will finish with the most incredible season in NBA history. A four-time All-Star recently weighed in on the conversation.

What Did a Multi-Time All-Star Say About the Thunder’s Future?

Four-Time All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins discussed the Thunder on the Run It Back Podcast with fellow former NBA players Lou Williams and Chandler Parsons. They revealed that he believes the team’s dominance is just getting started.

Cousins said, “The scary part about this OKC team, they’re gonna continue to get better. There’s one guy in their prime right now, and that’s SGA. The guys that are there are only gonna get better, and on top of that, they have more draft capital to add even more talent in the future.”

Should other NBA teams wait out the OKC Thunder dynasty? 🤔

“The scare part about this team is they’re gonna continue to get better. There’s one guy in his prime. That’s SGA… it’s gonna be a looooong wait.” – @BoogieCousins

Parsons also weighed in, saying, “SGA played 26 minutes. Chet played 24 minutes. They won by 50, bro. They’re so deep, I don’t know what their holes are. They don’t have any.” Parsons was referencing the Thunder’s dominant 138-89 win over the Phoenix Suns in the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup. The team now heads to Vegas to play the San Antonio Spurs in the semifinals.

The Thunder are second in the NBA in scoring and first in scoring defense, which highlights their early-season dominance. Their +17.5 net rating easily leads the league and puts them in a prime position to break the record held by the historic 1995-96 Chicago Bulls team that has the highest net rating in league history at +13.4.

The Thunder are also chasing the historic 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, who won a league record 73 regular-season games, while owning the late stages of the last decade, having won three championships.

Cousins points out that reigning league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the only star player in their prime or entering it right now. The 27-year-old will likely repeat as MVP if the Thunder break the Warriors’ regular-season win record.

He’s averaging 32.6 points per game this season on 56.2% shooting from the field and a career high 45.4% from three. Many LA Clippers fans have become frustrated with the organization‘s decision to trade him, as it appears the Kawhi Leonard era will end without the Clippers winning a championship.

Thunder wing Jalen Williams made his first All-Star team last season and turns 25 next year. Forward Chet Holmgren is projected to make his first All-Star team this year and only turns 24 next year.

With a potential multi-time MVP in Gilgeous-Alexander and two potential multi-time All-Stars alongside him, along with tremendous depth behind them, it appears that the NBA has found its next dynasty.
