Even when things are going their way, the Memphis Grizzlies can’t seem to catch a break. The Ja Morant drama was bad enough, but Zach Edey’s return was exciting enough to get them past it.
But now, even Edey’s been bitten by the injury bug. He’s the latest addition to what seems like a growing list of injured players on the Grizzlies roster.
The NBA Player Guessing Game allows you to guess the NBA player based on clues about their team, division, height, jersey number, points, and experience.
What’s the Latest on Zach Edey & the Grizzlies Injuries?
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported what Edey’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, told him about Edey’s latest ankle injury.
Charania reported that Edey will be re-evaluated in four weeks after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left ankle. Bartelstein said the plan is designed to optimize Edey’s long-term health in consultation with the Grizzlies and medical experts.

The Commercial Appeal’s DaMichael Cole reported that the young big man had recently mentioned experiencing ankle soreness after games, though it did not initially appear to be a major issue: “Zach Edey recently told me that he was dealing with some soreness after games in his ankle, but it didn’t sound like major thing. Not sure if this is related, but this is a major gut-punch after Memphis started going on a run with Edey back.”
With Edey out, the Grizzlies now have seven players nursing injuries. He joins Ja Morant, John Konchar, Javon Small, Ty Jerome, Brandon Clarke and Scotty Pippen Jr. Here’s the latest on their other players besides Edey, per ESPN.
John Konchar is sidelined indefinitely with a thumb injury.
Ja Morant is dealing with a calf injury but was a full participant in the Grizzlies’ practice.
Javon Small is out with a toe injury and will miss Memphis’ game against Portland.
Ty Jerome, who has not yet played for the Grizzlies, is recovering from a calf injury and is expected to miss six to nine weeks as of Nov. 22.
Brandon Clarke remains out with a knee injury. He has not played since March and is projected to miss the first six to nine weeks of the season as of Nov. 11.
Scotty Pippen Jr. underwent toe surgery before the season and will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks as of Oct. 18.
After opening the season 4-11, the Grizzlies have won seven of their last nine games to improve to 11-13 and move into the play-in picture. However, this series of injuries threatens to slow their progress.
