A surprising new NBA rumor suggests that instead of trading Giannis Antetokounmpo in the next few weeks, the Milwaukee Bucks are looking into adding another star player to keep the Greek legend happy.

This has been a surprisingly bad season for the Bucks. While they weren’t necessarily viewed as an elite team in the conference this year, they have a top-five talent in Antetokounmpo, and impact veterans Kyle Kuzma and Myles Turner. That should be enough to be a top-six team in the East this year.

However, they enter the weekend with a sad 11-15 record and a boatload of rumors swirling that Antetokounmpo is soon going to push for a trade. If he is moved, that could lead to a domino effect where Milwaukee tries to move other pricey contracts to clear space and start over. Yet, that may not be the case.

The Bucks understand the immense value of the two-time NBA MVP, and that if they move on from him, they could return to being a middle-of-the-road team at best. They will not force a deal unless he absolutely demands it. That may explain a new rumor that suggests a different trade strategy than has been assumed by many.

Milwaukee Bucks interested in Zach LaVine trade

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, “league sources confirmed that Milwaukee has done recent due diligence” on two-time All-Star Zach LaVine.

The Sacramento Kings are another team that had a lot of high hopes for their veteran roster this season. But they are among the clubs with a worse record than Milwaukee, as they sit at 6-19. As their season continues to spiral into mediocrity, they have been linked to a variety of trades that include LaVine and other stars like DeMar DeRozan.

The 30-year-old is averaging just over 20 points per game and is shooting 39% from three. He would certainly bring more scoring for the Bucks, but there is reason to wonder if he simply isn’t a winning player and more often hurts the teams he joins than helps.
